Jordan Vogt-Roberts’ ‘Kong: Skull Island’ sinks claws into top spot at the American box office for the first week racking up USD 61 million in a few days after its release.
Kong’s success is due to favorable reviews that the movies received before its debut which led to beating initial estimates of between 45 to 50 million.
The huge amount that the film has gathered doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s already a success, taking into consideration a production budget of USD185 million, a media report said.
“The movie is pure fun and that’s translating into the box office,” said Jeff Goldstein, domestic distribution chief at US-based film studio and distributor Warner Bros.
“Kong: Skull Island” is a reboot of ‘King Kong’. The most popular gorilla on the big screen first was featured in 1933 classic “King Kong.”
‘Kong: Skull Island’ follows the story of a team of scientists exploring an uncharted island in the Pacific, daring to enter the domain of the mighty ape ‘Kong’.
